North Carolina Traffic Violations & Criminal Offenses

Our Raleigh Traffic Violations Defense Lawyers Represent You in Court and Administrative Hearings

Traffic violations can add up to hefty fines, suspended driving privileges, higher insurance premiums and, in some cases, incarceration. Cheshire Parker Schneider takes steps to help you avoid these consequences. Our Raleigh criminal defense attorneys recognize the impact that your traffic-related charge has on your life, your finances, your job and your freedom, and we pursue the best possible outcome in your case.

Collin Cook heads our misdemeanor, traffic and DWI defense division. He is a skilled and polished trial attorney who regularly appears in district court, where these cases are heard in North Carolina. He has earned the respect of prosecutors, defense lawyers, judges and the clients he has represented for his professionalism, skills and determination. He has been recognized as one of the top DWI attorneys in North Carolina by the National Advocacy for DUI Defense. Learn more about our DWI defense practice.

Fighting Traffic Points

In addition to a heavy fine, points are potentially added to your driving record each time you are found responsible for, or guilty of, a traffic violation. The number of points depends on the severity of the offense. For example, you receive five points in North Carolina for aggressive driving or illegally passing a school bus, whereas running a red light or speeding in excess of 55 mph are each worth three points. Your license will be suspended if you accumulate 12 points within three years, or if you accumulate eight points within three years after your license has been reinstated from a previous suspension. Points can add up quickly, especially if you receive several points for multiple violations in one incident. For instance, you would receive 10 points for one traffic stop in which you received citations for following too closely (four points), running a stop sign (three points) and no liability insurance (three points). Therefore, it is important to hire a skilled traffic violations defense lawyer for any tickets you may receive.

Driver’s License Suspension

Losing your driver’s license is not just an annoying inconvenience; your driving privileges are essential in Raleigh and the Triangle area. Without your car, you would have difficulty getting to and from work, picking up groceries, making doctors’ appointments or shuttling your kids to school. Our attorneys represent you in hearings before the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles for a hardship license or a license reinstatement. Our goal is to help you mitigate serious disruption in your driving privileges after you are arrested for a DWI or your license is suspended based on your driving record.
